Maryland Digital Government Services Recognized for Excellence

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – June 01, 2016 – Maryland’s official website, www.maryland.gov, was recently honored with a Silver Award of Distinction for Creative Excellence in Communications by the 22nd Annual Communicator Awards. In addition, one of the most popular digital government services, the AccessDNR Apple Watch app, won “Innovation of the Year” from the StateScoop 50 Awards. These significant achievements reinforce the pursuit of excellence and commitment to create innovative and useful access points to state government services for all Marylanders.

“We are proud to work with our government partners to develop innovative digital government services that deliver efficiencies to the citizens and businesses they serve.” said Janet Grard, NIC Maryland General Manager.

Over the past two years, the Maryland.gov website has been awarded 22 national and international awards for its creativity and innovation in web design, usability, and mobile development for a government website. The state’s award-winning website, www.maryland.gov, serves as the gateway for a record-breaking 84 million online visitors each year, including 32 percent visiting from a mobile device.

With a strong focus on serving the community, Maryland was the first state to introduce citizen-centric user personalization with the MyMaryland clipboard allowing visitors to clip and save links for future use. In addition, citizens can search public meetings and events and access more than 250 time-saving digital services including vehicle and boating registration, hunting and fishing licenses, business registration, children’s services, and more.

Marylanders can use the AccessDNR mobile app to locate state parks, available amenities, hunting locations, and more. When paired with the Apple Watch, the mobile app helps users easily discover water trails and boat launches directly on their wrist. The AccessDNR mobile app and Apple Watch app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or through Google Play App Store for Android users.

These digital government services were developed at no charge for the state of Maryland by NIC Maryland, through the self-funded eGovernment services contract with the State Department of Information Technology (DoIT).
