Maryland Launches Online Payment Service for Environmental Invoices

Pay Environmental Permits Online

New system speeds up transactions for environmental permits

Annapolis, MD – July 8, 2015 – The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) launched their online Invoice Payment Service that allows business customers to pay invoices for permits and other MDE services online.  The new Invoice Payment Service accepts all major credit cards and eCheck/ACH payments and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The service can be accessed by visiting MDE's website, www.mde.maryland.gov or the state's official website, www.maryland.gov.

"Improving customer service is a top priority for MDE," said MDE Secretary Ben Grumbles. "We will continue to use new technologies, such as rapid payment options and permit tracking systems, to increase efficiencies and environmental results throughout the state."

MDE sends out approximately 2,500 invoices a month to the regulated community for a variety of permits to protect air quality, water quality and for safe control of waste disposal that can be paid in three easy steps.  Simply locate the invoice number on the invoice sent from MDE, select the default amount shown to pay or enter a different amount and click on proceed to payment to process the invoice payment.  The receipt will be displayed on screen for printing and an email will also be sent to the address used for the payment.

The MDE Invoice Payment service was developed at no charge for the Maryland Department of the Environment by NIC Maryland, through the self-funded eGovernment services contract with the State Department of Information Technology (DoIT).
