Maryland.gov Ranked Among Nation’s Top Government Websites

Posted: 10/13/2014

Maryland’s award winning official state website, www.Maryland.gov, has been repeatedly recognized as a top government website and was recently honored by Government Technology and e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government’s prestigious Best of the Web Award competition.  In this year’s competition, the Maryland.gov website was ranked among the top five best state websites in the country.

The Maryland.gov website serves as the gateway for 63 million visitors to Maryland state agency websites and eGovernment services each year and features innovative new personalization, social media and geo-location driven content with a mobile first responsive design. Marylanders can easily access more than 200 eGovernment services including car registration renewals, tax payments, new business registration and hunting and fishing licenses.

“The State of Maryland is honored to have the official state portal recognized by the Center for Digital Government in its annual Best of the Web competition,” said Isabel FitzGerald, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Information Technology.  “This recognition validates our dedication to delivering best in class eGovernment services to the citizens and businesses of Maryland.”

In three categories – state, city and county – nearly 300 government websites were judged on their innovative qualities, usefulness, and efficiency and economy. A panel comprising last year’s winners, former government officials and executives from the Center for Digital Government selected websites that were innovative, while remaining functional.

Maryland’s official state website has also been recognized with other industry awards including:

  • Visual Excellence in the Multimedia Arts (VEMA) – Maryland.gov received its second consecutive international VEMA Award for its creativity and innovation.  The VEMA Awards recognize the outstanding work of innovative, artistic and creative professionals involved in the multimedia arts.
  • Interactive Media Award (IMA) – Maryland.gov received a Best in Class Award in the Government category from the Interactive Media Awards.  The Best in Class distinction is the highest honor bestowed by the IMAs and represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism.
  • WebAward – The Maryland.gov website was recognized as an Outstanding Website in the Government Category by the Web Marketing Association’s WebAward.  The WebAward program is the longest running annual website award competition dedicated to naming the best websites in 96 industries while setting the standard of excellence for all website development.
  • W3 Award – The Maryland.gov Features Video was selected as a Silver Award Winner by the International Academy of the Visual Arts out of over 4,000 entries from top companies and agencies worldwide.
